New sponsors for the regional photographic competition

04 Jul, 2001 08:44 AM
Organisation of the Southern Tablelands Regional Library’s Photographic Competition is proceeding apace, with the welcome addition of new sponsors and some extra opportunities for the public to view the historic photographs following the judging of the competition.

Most recent sponsors include the Crookwell Gazette, Marulan Mastercrafts and the Marulan Magazine. They join the Goulburn Post, the Sheep’s Back Gallery (Yass), and the Anthony Rose Gallery (also of Yass) who have already offered their kind support through generous donations of prizes and publicity. For this, the Library sincerely thanks them, and would like to extend the offer to other organisations to join in. The more sponsors, the more prizes!

The photographic competition is part of the Southern Tablelands Regional Library’s Centenary of Federation celebrations. It will enable the Library to acquire photographs for the regional collection, and future projects are planned to make these and other images of the past and present available for the future!

Focusing on heritage and potential heritage sites within the Local Government areas of Crookwell, Goulburn, Gunning, Mulwaree, Tallaganda and Yass, the competition is open to everyone. A range of categories are on offer, including pre-1900 National Trust heritage listed sites, and post-1900 potential heritage sites. Council staff and their families are not neglected either, as there are separate sections available for them to enter.

The competition closes August 31, 2001 with judging held during the following week. Photographs will go on display in libraries and other venues across the region from September 17 during History Week. They will then rotate around the region until early December, so there will be plenty of opportunities for the public to view these tributes to our heritage.

The Braidwood Library would like to have some sponsors from Tallaganda Shire. If your organisation is interested in lending their support to this event, please contact Marilyn McGrath 4842 2091 or 4842 2223 or Ms Bonomini on 4823 4435.

Entry forms for the competition can be obtained from the Braidwood Library and the Council office. Email enquiries are also welcome via strl@goulburn.nsw.gov.au
