Rooms of a derelict house, donated by NSWFB Deputy Captain Steven Hockey, were set up to simulate different types of crime scenes, and were systematically burnt under controlled conditions.

In addition to tests on smoke alarms and domestic sprinklers, the NSW Fire Brigade tested the efficiency of its two arson accelerant detection dogs -Sheba and Winna -under working conditions, and a number of academics from two Sydney-based universities carried out research.
