Pathway to community gardens

10 Dec, 2009 12:50 PM
At last Thursday's meeting Palerang Council voted unanimously to allow a Community Garden to be established on the common at Bombay Road, along with the footpath to cross Flood Creek with a footbridge.

Braidwood Urban Landcare Group will erect a livestock fence across the Braidwood common, annexing an area of approximately 6000 m² at the eastern end of which around 1150 m² will be a community garden.

The Landcare group has funds available for the fencing and the path. An amount of $12 000 has been put aside for the construction of a simple foot bridge over Flood Creek that runs through the site. Arrangements are being made for this money to be paid to Council for it to undertake the bridgeworks using second hand hardwood members retrieved from dismantled bridges stored in Council's yard. The Landcare group would need to be responsible for costs of water connection and usage.

The submission read that the "establishment of the community garden will provide a venue for local residents to meet and socialise. The path will encourage passive recreational activities and a healthier lifestyle."

Landcare volunteers have been busy over recent weeks revegetation the Flood Creek area and building the first part of the gravel pathway.
