Petition picks up rotten reception

29 Oct, 2009 10:49 AM
Local resident Cecile Galliazzo has circulated a petition for Braidwood to get a better ABC radio reception.

The petition is lobbying for a repeater tower on Gillamatong, along with other telecommunications already in place.

Cecile said, "while we all appreciate the contribution to community that the "Barbed Wireless" make, Braidwood’s local radio, we all pay our taxes for the ABC and as in many country areas, ABC radio is vital link to National and Regional affairs."

The Braidwood district stretching from Nerriga to Gundillion, is split between listening to poor quality reception from ABC Illawarra, Bega or Canberra.

Apart from the entertainment and news aspect, “In times of emergency, such as a bushfire, the district would need one avenue for information, and in the past the ABC has been a crucial link with emergency services and outlying areas” said Cecile.

Petitions are available for signing at The Boiled Lolly and Bunyip Jungle.

The petition will be presented to Palerang Council and local members Mike Kelly and Steve Whan.
