 Pick the scent of Summer

Pick the scent of Summer

12 Jan, 2006 03:41 PM
Peter and Sandra Rylands from Curraweena Lavender Farm on the Kings Highway are inviting people to come and pick their own lavender for as little as $1 a bunch from Friday 13th to Sunday 15th January.

The original bushes were planted nine years ago, when the Rylands moved to Braidwood, with selected varieties propagated and put in five years ago. Braidwood has a climate not unlike Provence where large amounts of lavender are grown. This year the lavender farm is experiencing a bumper season due to the good early spring rains, and the Rylands are overwhelmed by the sheer mass of flowers, which they cut by hand.

Producing heat pillows, sachets, hand balms, body oils and soaps, the farm distributes to retailers from Queensland to Victoria, as well as locally at the Pharmacy, Bunyip Jungle and the Markets. Lavender is known as traditional herb with relaxation and soothing qualities.

This weekend the farm will be open from 10am to 4pm. Telephone 4842 2800 for more details.
