As part of ongoing rehabilitation works along the urban sections of Flood Creek, Braidwood Urban Landcare Group (BULG) will be coordinating a planting day on November 8th. All members of the community and their guests are invited. More than 3oo plants of various species will be available for volunteers to come and help plant on the day. These will include several different types of Eucalypt as well as understory and ground-cover species including native grasses.
The planting will be carried out around the new low-level crossing that is currently under construction across Flood Creek beside the Braidwood end of Bombay Road. When completed, this crossing is intended to provide horse-riders with a safe and stable crossing point across the creek to Hassall's Reserve. Both sides of the crossing will be landscaped with native trees, shrubs and groundcovers and the Bombay Road side will provide a sheltered grassy area and creek access for public recreation.
This new recreational area will form one of a number of picturesque recreational sites beside Flood Creek. The sites are to be joined by a public path running alongside the creek from Archer Bridge to a new footbridge and pathway planned for below Garvey Street. These paths and new crossing points will provide increased recreational opportunities within and near to the township and will link other planting sites planned for future stages of the Flood Creek project.
The overall project is being conducted in partnership between BULG, Palerang Council, The Land and Property Management Authority (former Lands Dept.), Southern Rivers Catchment Management Authority, The Sydney Catchment Authority and Greater Southern Area Health. It is designed to achieve multiple beneficial goals. These include an increase in environmental and habitat values through the revegetation of the area with native flora and also general improvements in access and amenity for all of our local community and visitors. This major addition to Braidwood's walking paths will be enjoyed by the town's many recreational pedestrians.
After some initial works on Flood Creek last summer and autumn, a brief hiatus in construction and planting occurred during the winter months. With the coming of spring, BULG is keen to provide an opportunity for interested community members to become involved in the project and to participate in a major planting activity at this site.
All community members from Braidwood and the surrounding district are invited to come and plant with us starting at 10am on Sunday the 8th of November. There are numerous activities to be undertaken including planting, setting guards, watering and mulching around all plants. There will also be a satisfying BBQ lunch on site. You will need to bring a hat, gloves, sunscreen, sturdy footwear, and ample water to drink. Please contact Kate Park on 48422485 or Ben Gleeson on 48422679 if you have any questions.
