The committee working on the Two Fires Festival of Arts + Activism is getting very excited about this fast approaching event. This week we want to tell you a little about the Poetry & Literature happenings.
Amongst invited panellists are Alice Gage of Ampersand Magazine, Rob Riel of Picaro Press, Stephen Mathews of Ginninderra Press and Caren Florance from Ampersand Duck. This delightful foursome will discuss the pitfalls of small publishing and of course how much they love what they do. Peter Minter, poet and editor of the 'Pen Anthology of Aboriginal Literature' and John Maynard, professor of Indigenous Studies at University of Newcastle will have a chat about indigenous literature and writing as activism.
Melbourne trio Peter O'Mara, Patrick Jones and Meg Ulman have joined forces to bring us an interesting presentation on 'Social Warming'. They have requested data projectors and screens and for some reason we are imagining a lively event.
As well as these group discussions there will be several poetry readings and performances. Nicola Bowery will read a compelling and poetic tale of a mermaid's journey on land and Canberra writer Fiona McIlroy will launch her poetry collection 'Taste of a Poem'.
Anyone interested in doing a reading or performance at the Poet's breakfast should contact us. For those wanting extra information regarding these events or the festival in general are encouraged to email: enquiries@twofiresfestival.org visit the website: www.twofiresfestival.org or phone 0401 904 680. We are also calling for expressions of interest for volunteers and billets.
