The newly reformed Braidwood Polocrosse Club were delighted last weekend when the A grade team won their first competition under the Braidwood banner.
They met the Sydney team in the final and won by four goals in a close game at the Bungendore Tournament.
The team was made up of Richard, Aaron, and Luke Clarke, Steven Darmody, Brett Petty and Luke Codey.
The team were delighted with the win, as several players hadn’t played together before.
The practise sessions at the Braidwood Showground over several Sundays certainly benefited the new players and they displayed their teamwork on the field last Sunday.
Other club members, Kelly Shoemark, Tom Clarke, Pat Clarke and Jason Andrews all enjoyed their polocrosse but did not get into a final.
At the trophy presentation late on Sunday afternoon, Luke Clarke was named Best Number 3 Player in the A grade and Aaron Clarke was named Best Overall Player and Horse combination on his horse ‘Adel’.
The Braidwood A grade team was captained by Richard Clarke, who thanked his new team members and the club sponsor, Wongabel Farmstay who had helped the club to establish itself over the past six months.
He also mentioned to the crowd that the Braidwood Tournament would be held at the Braidwood Showground on May 26 and 27 and that everyone would be welcome to attend.
Richard stated that the club is looking forward to hosting as many teams a possible and that he hoped that many of the Braidwood locals would also come up to the showground to view the polocrosse, making a real carnival atmosphere.
