A modification to the Development Application (DA) for the 116 lot subdivision south of Cowper St has stirred concerns in the community, some of whom gathered at 'the rocks' on Monday to support the lone objector to the DA. The modifications are on the agenda for tomorrow's Palerang Council meeting.
The modifications include changes to verges from kerb and guttering to swales, staged tree planting, gravel pathways, rather than concrete, and the extension of Wallace Street as an entry point to the subdivision.
The report to council states that "Council must be satisfied that the development (as to be modified) will remain substantially the same as the development that was originally approved. The development as proposed in this modification is considered to be substantially the same as that which was originally approved, being Stage 1 of a subdivision with standard residential lots, having a similar layout to the original layout."
However one major difference is the extension of Wallace Street for entry into the subdivision, rather than the sole entry being via an extension of Elrington Street. The extension of Wallace Street has rung alarm bells, that in time, added traffic through the historic single lane 'cutting', or 'the rocks', would lead to their disturbance.
