Public meeting in Majors Creek to discuss mining

17 Dec, 2009 12:50 PM
A Public Meeting has been called in Majors Creek to discuss issues regarding the proposed gold mine and to elect a community representative committee to liaise with Cortona Resources, on Thursday, December 17th 7pm -8.30pm at Majors Creek Hall.

The meeting has been called following the information session held two weeks ago by Cortona to answer questions from the communities of Majors Creek and Araluen, who are in the Upper Deua Catchnment area.

Last week the Braidwood Times incorrectly reported that from January "residents were warned that 24 hour blasting would be felt through vibrations."

Cortona Managing Director Mr Peter van der Borgh said that there would not be any blasting at the Dargues reef site until all the environmental and social impact studies are completed and the underground mine gets the go ahead.

"There is no blasting associated with the drilling" he said.
