The quiet of Wallace Street was shattered on Friday morning when ram raiders attempted to drive a utility into RJ Nomchong Electrical Shop in Wallace Street about 5:25am. The Ford Courier utility that was stolen from Bateman's Bay mounted the deep gutter to ram into the double doors. Entry was not gained and the offenders fled in the vehicle. A short time later the vehicle was located in Braidwood Recreation ground ablaze. No offenders have been identified at this time but investigations are continuing.
The heritage shop had recently undergone extensive expansion and renovation by local builder Stephen Orford, who had thoughtfully reinforced the wood panelled street frontage with 100mm steel supports.
Senior Constable Richard Pearce would be interested to speak to any person with information about the incident, as there were people up and about at the time.
This incident follows a series of break-ins at commercial premises in Braidwood the previous Friday morning. Burglars broke into the Braidwood sawmill, and the local bakery before ransacking an office at Tegra concrete.
