 Remembrance of our fallen comrades

Remembrance of our fallen comrades

02 Apr, 2009 11:54 AM
Lights are dimmed and the Ode of Remembrance is recited - 'They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn; At the going down of the sun, and in the morning we will remember them'. After a moments silent reflection the members respond - 'Lest we Forget'.

Many of these clubs have an Ode Light burning. Last Friday night the Braidwood RSL Sub branch presented the Servicemen's Club with an Ode Light which will burn constantly in the club to remind our Braidwood folk of the sacrifices made on their behalf.

Members of the RSL sub branch, including local WW2 veterans, Pring Raynolds and Ernie May supported the RSL sub branch president, Bruce Keeley as he dedicated the Ode Light. Peter Camiller, the president of the Servicemen's Club accepted the light, acknowledging the service done by our comrades and the good work of the RSL, not only for our older returned men and women, but in ensuring our servicemen and women of today are well supported by the community and the government.
