Despite a cold and unfriendly wind on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th of August, Bombay Road was duly scoured for roadside litter up to the gates of the tip. The effort took a total of about 15 hours work and the resulting detritus filled a large trailer. The tally of rubbish collected came to a total of 24 sacks (5 of recycling and 19 of general rubbish). In addition there was an assortment of larger items which refused to fit into the sacks, including a car wheel and a car radiator, various bin and tool box lids, a table top and other such bits.
As a result of the wonderful generosity of the Braidwood community, the amounts pledged to the Braidwood Community Gardens are in the vicinity of $900. This far exceeds my expectations and I am very grateful to everyone for their support. While some of this money has already been collected the remaining pledges and donations can either be given to me in person or paid at the Bendigo Bank over the next couple of weeks. I would like to extend my thanks to the Bank and to all the premises in town that displayed the pledge forms and collected money for me. Thanks of course are due to the many individuals for their contributions and to the various organisations for their donations including the Front Office Staff at BCS, The Braidwood Region Seniors Association, and Eureka Pizzeria. A very large thankyou is due to Alison Smith for braving the wild wind and helping on both days to pick up rubbish with me: the company and help were most welcome. Finally, thanks to my road crew for the support and snacks!
To anyone who may not have got around to pledging before the event, please don’t feel you have missed out... simply pop into the Bank. Donations of money are most welcome as are donations of tools, equipment, materials and such. If you have anything you no longer need that you think may be of use to the Community Gardens, or have any questions, please call me (Annie) on 48422679.
Everyone is welcome to join in the fun at the Community Gardens or come down and just have a look. Simply follow the Bombay Road footpath from Archer Bridge until you come to the Garden site. At present a small group meets every Wednesday afternoon after 3pm if the weather is amenable. Works so far have involved preparing space for a hedge to be planted and constructing raised planting beds and compost bays. As the weather improves with the approach of spring we are hoping to also meet on some weekends so as to include those folks who can’t make it during the week. Notification of these days will be made through the Braidwood Times, so watch this space. Please join us if you’re able, it’s a lot of fun.
