With their principles firmly intact, the Braidwood Central School students in Sydney for the SheetMetal Industry Awards, all sold their works, and Will Cassim was the recipient of the Salvagnini-Machinery Forum Junior Sculpture of the Year Award.
For his work “Pighunting”, Cassim received $500 for himself and $500 for his school in prize money. He also sold his sculpture whilst on exhibition for $1100.
Brayden McKay with “Kiwi” received the Selectrix-Selectlok Highly Commended Award with $250 prize money for his school and himself and he was also the recipient of the Coregas Audience Choice Award and also sold his work at auction.
Travis Woodbridge was a state finalist with “On the Rocks” and sold his sculpture at the auction for $900.
Event organizers said “All boys were lovely and a true credit to Braidwood Central School.” The awards received the highest praise with NSW Premier Hon Barry O’Farrell presenting the awards.
Over 250 guests attended the gala dinner held in Sydney. Pam Christie, the Acting Director-General of the Department of Education and Communities opened the Sculpture exhibition which was held at the MLC Centre in Sydney and presented each finalist with an SIA jersey and finalist certificate.
Braidwood Central School has made the finals of the SIA Sculpture Award for the past 5 years.
