Braidwood's Community Technology Centre (CTC) in Wallace Street has received a grant of $324.50 for an 'Explore the World from Braidwood' project as part of Seniors Week.
Steve Whan has announced that NSW Government had awarded grants totalling $2,304.50 to the Monaro area to support local events during NSW Seniors Week 2006 celebrations from April 2 to 9. "More than 307 non-profit, volunteer, local government and community organisations have received grants across State to hold local Seniors Week events," he said.
"Seniors Week provides opportunities for learning, adventure and getting together, for both older people and younger people." Steve Whan is encouraging all seniors and seniors' groups in the Monaro area to join in a variety of events in the area.
The CTC project includes morning and afternoon teas for seniors and demonstrations of internet sites by school students. "It is great to see a program that encourages seniors to use computers and to follow that up with computer classes. It is also a wonderful opportunity for local school students to spend time and exchange ideas with some of our senior community members" Steve Whan said. "During NSW Seniors Week 2005, more than 235,000 seniors participated in 500 events throughout NSW, with more than 300 community groups receiving grants to participate and run activities," he added.
