SERVICEMEN'S CLUB $48K WATER GRANT

30 Nov, 2006 11:50 AM
The Federal Member for Eden-Monaro, Gary Nairn, welcomed on Monday the announcement by the Australian Government that 16 community groups in the electorate will receive $891,211 for projects to save, recycle or improve the health of local water resources.

Mr Nairn said these projects were being funded under the $200 million Community Water Grants programme, which is part of the $2 billion Australian Government Water Fund. This is in addition to funding of almost $1 million granted for water-saving projects in Eden-Monaro in March this year. "At a local level, Community Water Grants projects will save 62,317,650 litres of water per year in the electorate of Eden-Monaro." Said Mr Nairn. Projects will promote wise water use and increase community awareness about water efficiency and conservation, water recycling and water health.

The Club's grant of $48,745 will save water at the Braidwood Servicemen's Club by installing tanks to store harvested rainwater which will be used for toilet flushing and irrigation. The existing toilet facilities and irrigation system will be upgraded to increase efficiency. This project will save 1,375,200 litres of water per year.
