Stage 2 water restrictions have been set down to apply at Braidwood from Saturday 23rd of December 2006.
The need for these measures has arisen as a result of a worsening situation in the Shoalhaven River, the source of Braidwood's water supply.
Palerang Council's Director of Works, Mr Gordon Cunningham confirmed that Council had been closely monitoring flows within the Shoalhaven through both observations and the advice of others further upstream of the pumping station.
"Flows to the pump station have now reduced to the point where demand exceeds supply" Mr Cunningham reported. "Whilst arrangements are in place to supplement this supply by pumping from another location within the river, these are expected to provide only temporary relief" he said.
Stage 2 water restrictions effectively ban the use of fixed hoses and sprinklers, allowing only hand watering at specific times.
The measures aim to secure a 25% reduction in consumption when compared to averages recorded under Water Conservation Measures.
