Sticky fingers after sweet mystery visits

Sticky fingers after sweet mystery visits

29 Nov, 2011 10:59 PM
On Wednesday evening last week Bunyip Jungle and The Washing Mill were broken in to but burglars managed only to find small amounts of pretty cash. But that’s where the mystery starts. Clare Marsh from Bunyip Jungle reports that the burglars didn’t cause too much disruption however they did spit mouthfuls of cherry pips around the shop – presumably from the Kentish (sour) cherry tree just outside the Bakers Paddle.

Inside the Washing Mill there wasn’t too much disruption either, however Apiarist Scott Williams’ Bees R Us has a stand of his merchandise inside The Washing Mill, and it was his honey which was sought after. Fingerprints are being taken from the small 500gm jars of Bees R Us honey, which were moved aside for the thieves to get away with several 5 kilogram buckets of the local honey.

Now sour cherries usually do require a little sweetener, but that’s not the only mysterious interest being shown in the Bees R Us product. The previous week, after a phone call to check on availability, and a brief security scan of the area, four American ‘diplomatic types’ purportedly from the Obama delegation travelling in Canberra, arrived at the Tallaganda Service Station and bought up 3 jars each of the honey.

On Tuesday the SMH reported in Good Living that “The Obamas are honey recruits and give White House Honey in crystal jars as gifts to dignitaries.” [A new buzz in the city SMH 22 Nov 2011], so it’s a sweet thought as to where the Braidwood honey might end up?
