Stronger relations with Braidwood

26 Jun, 2001 01:10 PM
The SCA is placing a greater emphasis on working closely with the Braidwood community to improve the health of the Shoalhaven River and its tributaries, with a decision to have a permanent presence in the region.

From July 1 the SCA’s Mark Lane will be the official face of the SCA in the Braidwood region. Initially Mark will be based at a SCA property on the Shoalhaven River, until office space is located in the Braidwood township.

“Mark is a senior manager with the SCA and brings an extensive background in stakeholder, land and environmental management,” said SCA chief executive Mr Jeff Wright.

“The SCA is placing a priority on building a strong relationship with the Braidwood community so that we can work in partnership to improve the Shoalhaven River system.

“We realise that our role of protecting the Shoalhaven catchment is only going to work if we have an effective working relationship with the Braidwood community.

“For our part, Mark’s permanent presence will mean that we can start to build strong links within the Braidwood community.

“We want to really build on the projects that we’ve done with Braidwood Central School on building an education centre at Riverlea, and through the Upper Shoalhaven Landcare Council.

“There’s an array of larger infrastructure projects that we will need to undertake, and we’ll be looking to work in partnership with Tallaganda Council.

“Most people are aware that we’re also a large landowner in Braidwood. Part of Mark’s role will be to ensure that we’re good neighbours and that we properly manage our 30,000 hectares,” Mr Wright said.

Mark’s role will include: Liaison with Braidwood community groups and Tallaganda Shire Council; Land management planning; Environmental planning.
