Participation in this year's Youth Week event was up from about ten to 200 young people.
Braidwood's enthusiastic Golf Professional Leigh Hunter was the driving force in creating the Youth Event and Careers expo at both The Club and The Rec Ground.
Leigh sees golf as a means to and end for many people. Golf can help you learn about yourself, gives you discipline, helps you to meet new people and can take you around the world.
The opportunity to participate in golf can also give young people an insight into career opportunities in many other fields as well as sports.
With support from Palerang Council and Braidwood Central School Careers Adviser Rob Martin, Leigh invited a variety of employers to come to the Expo and explain a little of what they do.
As well as the barbecue lunch and golfing activities, the students were able to listen to representatives and career advisers from the Defence Forces, Landmark, Department of Education and Training, Helen Roberts from the saddle camp and NSW Country Cricket.
At The Rec Ground NSW Country Cricket Development Officer Graeme Smith had Radar Gun and Bowling machine set up in the nets to show the kids the reality of 130km bowling speeds they'd face at the next level up of cricket competition.
Leigh said " it was great to see so many businesses show their interest in the Palerang's youth. The kids were very well behaved and this is a credit to both their parents and teachers. Thankyou to Braidwood golf club for their support of the event along with the bowlers who gave up their day to show the young ones how it's done" he said.
