 The Russians are coming

The Russians are coming

26 Sep, 2001 07:45 AM
The highlight of this year’s Choralfest will certainly be a visit by four singers from the Russian City of St Petersburg.

These four singers are members of Lyra, an acapella choir of professional musicians. When they tour Australia in November they will spend a weekend in Braidwood.

They will work with the Braidwood Cantors and the many singers from the Southern area who have been invited to take part in this year’s Choralfest.

Lyra can be found on the internet at www.lyra-online.org.

Lyra’s visit will lead to a weekend of concerts, workshops, master classes and lots of music.

During the weekend choirs will take part in church services as well as concerts to which everyone is invited.

The dates for this year’s Choralfest are November 16, 17 and 18.

Another feature of the activities of that third weekend in November will be learning music specially written for Choralfest.

The Cantors have commissioned a Melbourne composer, Peter Haydon, to write two songs. This has been made possible by a grant from the NSW Government’s CASP scheme.

Peter wrote music for the film “Finding Joy” shot in Braidwood earlier this year and the Cantors are looking forward to working with him again.

It should prove to be a busy time for the Cantors, as well as those other musicians who join them for Braidwood’s second Choralfest.
