The Science Minister and The Sea Cow

10 May, 2007 01:51 PM
Finlay Lloyd Publishers will be launching 'The Science Minister & the Sea Cow',

a book of 13 essays on the nature of choice at the Braidwood Library on 19th May.

Choice is full of contradictions. Turn on the television, open a magazine, walk down a city street and the options bombard us. The right to choose is synonymous with our view of freedom, but are we bedevilled by it as much as privileged? And are there some choices we don't know how to make?

Taking widely differing approaches, from the intimate to the discursive, the thirteen contributors to this collection of essays put choice to the test. Well-known among them are Michael Brissenden, Terry Lane, Paul McDermott, Sara Dowse and Paul Daley.

The Science Minister and the Sea Cow is a tall, elegant paperback with four cover colours, generous gatefolds and a quality duotone photograph. It is indicative of Finlay Lloyd's keen interest in the design of handsome editions.

This book is part of an ongoing series from Finlay Lloyddedicated to encouraging imaginative and speculative writing.

The book will be launched by art critic John McDonald following an introduction by Charlotte Harper at 3pm on Saturday 19 May. RSVP acceptance only to finlaylloyd@sharewater.net or tel 4842 1339
