With the Federal election this Saturday, consistent polling throughout the campaign indicates that Labor's Mike Kelly will take the seat of Eden-Monaro from Gary Nairn, who has held the seat since 1996.

However, a Patterson Market Research Poll released by The Canberra Times in Monday showed that Gary Nairn was closing the gap, having halved Kelly's lead from 56-44 to 53-47 in the two party preferred poll since the five week campaign began.

Like the other highly watched NSW seat of Wentworth in Sydney held by Environment Minister Malcolm Turnbull, the primary Green and independent vote is expected to be up to 10%, which may push Labor candidates over the line.

With the release of the latest report by the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change on Saturday suggesting the world is on the brink of an environmental catastrophe, Eden-Monaro Greens candidate Keith Hughes is likely to increase his support, polled at 9.3% of the primary vote, already buoyed by the Clean Energy for Eternity group's campaign on the Far South Coast of the electorate.

With the spate of "me-tooism" funding announcements, some of the electoral shine has been taken off the pledges and their actual value to communities.

Braidwood has seen significant largesse in funding for the replacement of its sewerage treatment plant. While the State Labor Government announced $3.3 million alongside $3.3 million if Kelly is elected, Nairn has also committed $3.3m from Federal funding, meaning a Labor win would secure $9.9 million funding for Braidwood alone.
