Voice your bush fire concerns

Have your say on bush fire risks in Palerang and Queanbeyan by attending a meeting to be held at 5pm on 16th June in the Council meeting room Park Lane Braidwood, to help develop the area's new Bush Fire Risk Management Plan.

This is one of several consultation events where the knowledge and opinions of local people about bush fires in the Palerang and Queanbeyan Councils area will be gathered.

Lake George Zone Bush Fire Management Committee (BFMC) will hold the meeting and all are invited to attend.

"Tell us what you know about local fires, what areas you believe are at risk, and what should be done to treat those risks," said Superintendent Nick Turner, Lake George Zone Manager and Bush Fire Management Committee (BFMC) Executive officer.

"The Lake George Zone Bush Fire Risk Management Plan ultimately determines such things as where hazard reductions are conducted and who is responsible, which areas require special fire protection, which areas are targeted for community education” said Turner.

"Get involved by attending a bushfire risk meeting, or call a BFMC member for more information.

The Lake George Zone BFMC wants to know:

* What significant places, buildings, environments you think are at risk from bush fires

* What bush fire treatment strategy should be in place for those assets

* Your knowledge and experience of fire history and fire paths

* Your bush fire management issues and concerns.

Other community consultation events are planned for:

Bungendore in Palerang Council Building at 5pm on Thursday 25 June, Queanbeyan in Queanbeyan City Council in July, (date TBA), Burra Community Hall in July, (date TBA).

The Lake George Zone BFMC is made up of all the organisations with an interest in local bush fire management - including fire authorities, land managers and emergency services.
