Council, in association with the Roads and Traffic Authority, is planning to carry out rehabilitation works in Wallace Street during the next few weeks. The work to be done is really in two parts - strengthening and repair of the road shoulders to be done by, and financed by Council, then the rehabilitation and stabilisation of the central strip (7m wide) financed by the Roads and Traffic Authority, but carried out by Council under contract to the Roads and Traffic Authority. Road shoulder repairs have been commenced in the Ryrie Park area and, during the next three weeks, this will proceed. Small failed areas will be progressively treated working down the eastern side, thence up the western shoulder. In respect of this shoulder work, it is intended that small sections be done sufficient only to be opened and filled in one day. Some parking inconvenience is unavoidable during this operation. These patches will be scaled as soon as possible following repairs.
The work involved in the centre strip rehabilitation will include the pulvimixing to a depth of 200mm and the incorporation of a stabilising agent into that depth. This process is due to start on Wednesday, November 7, 2001 and should be completed, including a primer seal, within 10 days. It is expected that the stabilisation will commence at Lascelles Street and proceed to Monkittee Creek over three or four days and again, some disruption to traffic movement and parking is unavoidable. Following the central strip stabilisation, that central strip will be scaled and the two shoulders will receive a slight correction course with a bitumen based product. The whole pavement will then remain until about March 2002 when a final seal will be applied kerb to kerb. Parking bays will be repainted following the initial sealing work and then further repainted after the final seal. Examination of the present pavement condition will satisfy any observer of the need to carry out repairs and strengthening and it would be misleading to suggest that no inconvenience will be incurred. What I can assure you is that the perceived difficulties will be kept to an absolute minimum. Should there by any specific queries regarding the project, please contact Mr Ron Trevallion at Council’s office on (02) 4842 2225.
