All of us know that giving blood is one simple thing that we can do to save lives. Whilst the actual procedure of giving blood is quite quick, for those of us who live and work in regional areas the time and cost taken to travel to and from the Blood Bank can make the effort unachievable. To this end I am seeking your support to help bring the Blood Bank to us, so if you are between 16 and 70 years of age please give it a thought the next life saved could be yours.
The Australian Red Cross in Canberra has a mobile Blood Bank and is willing to visit both Braidwood and Bungendore villages. But there is a catch. The mobile service will only be initiated if there are sufficient numbers to support it. We need a minimum of 100 community members from Braidwood and the same number again from Bungendore to make this work. The mobile service would spend two week days at each location. I have no doubt that if we see this as an opportunity to further unite the Palerang Council by involving both the Braidwood and Bungendore regions we can exceed these numbers.
To proceed with this initiative we need more than your support in principle. Braidwood will need to show some evidence that community members will be willing donors over the two days. There are 2 pledge forms at both the Braidwood Supermarket and the Braidwood Community Bank and will be tallied on June 23. If you are able to donate blood during the week in Braidwood I would be grateful if you would add your name to the list. Allan Donnelly is the contact in Bungendore and the same form will used at various locations there. Please note that completing this form is not a binding agreement but simply a method of demonstrating local commitment to Red Cross management.
