After a week of much welcomed wet weather, Saturday's 13th annual Quilt Event saw another Airing of the Quilts down Wallace Street and large crowds attending the various exhibition venues. Although the attendance was estimated to be down around 10%, around 900 paying visitors passed through the National Theatre.
The event was opened officially by judge Adrienne Johns on Friday night.
There were 90 stalls in the park for the market, and later in the afternoon the Canberra Grammar School concert in Saint Andrews Anglican Church was attended by about 140 people. The open gardens were also well attended.
In the late afternoon the sun came out and the 2nd annual Food and Wine Market got underway with an array of food stalls from the popular oysters and prawns from the Bay to Pavlovas from St Bedes P & F. Scott Watkins-Sully Braidwood Bitter was available along with some local wines.
The Bootscooters danced, fourteen year old Maddie Anderson sang, Karuna and Nigel Begg played DJ, and The Cosh performed. Then with news of a federal electoral rout, people disbanded to watch the telecast. More page 3.
