Welcome rains top up supply

14 Feb, 2007 09:15 AM
Welcome weekend rains to the district may have averted the need for water restrictions to be tightened for the time being.

Last Thursday Council Engineer Gordon Cunningham inspected the pump station on the Shoalhaven where Braidwood's town supply is sourced. The weir was high and dry. Water was being pumped from pools since the river stopped flowing. The picture below shows the water was being syphoned from one pool to top up another. Mr Cunningham was contemplating jumping Braidwood's restrictions from Level 2 to Level 4 by February 28th.

Since the photo was taken on Thursday, with between 2 and 5 inches recorded in the area, the sand bar pictured is now well underwater.

However, Level 3 or 4 restrictions remain a very real possibility without further follow up rains.
