 Who's running?

Who's running?

14 Aug, 2008 03:49 PM
As of yesterday morning the NSW electoral Commission website had nineteen names officially nominating for the Palerang Local Government Election to be held on 13th September. So far there are two tickets from the Wamboin/Bywong area. One includes Terry Bransdon, Mike McColl, Richard Holding, Simon Blake and Keith France. Another includes Judith Miller, John van der Straaten, Ned Noel, Helen Montesin & Peter Harrison.

A ticket of Burra and Royalla residents has also emerged of Kev Fiebig, Mike Jaggard, Nivan Lau, Alan Schmidt and Nerida Hart.

The Community First ticket with residents from around the shire will include Catherine Moore, Forbes Gordon, Judith Turley, Angela Casey, John Taylor, Sarah Merriman and Ian Moy.

So far undeclared, or running as independents, are current Councillors Walter Raynolds, Mark Horan and Ian Marjeson. In addition, Bill Bateman, Rodney Wallace, Paul Cockram, Howard Crozier, Anne Goonan, and Richard Graham have all said they would run.

Nominations close today, and communities across Palerang will be holding Meet the Candidates evenings.

With a voting population of 7928, the greater part of Palerang's population lies to the west of Bungendore, and is likely to want to change the current Council's balance, where five out of the nine councillors are from the less populated eastern part of the Shire.
