Wallace Street was turned into a winter wonderland last Thursday morning as around 4cm of snow fell in town.
The temperatures stayed cold enough for the snow to stay on the ground until the early afternoon, but was still thick on the surrounding hills to the south and Mount Gillmatong into the evening. The snow was followed by over 100mm of soaking rain.
The Kings Highway was blocked west of Bungendore for several hours, stranding motorists, and other local roads were also closed, with some school bus services cancelled.
The Den Hertogs of Harolds Cross reported 'bucketloads' of snow and were clearly enjoying being snowed in by the photo contributions to the Times.
"It got to over 10cm, but now the rain has started and its all turning into a massive slushie. The surrounding hills are still covered in snow clouds so above 1200m I would guess are still being hammered" said Bernie den Hertog.
"Its good that the rain has started as the trees were heavily laden with snow to the point where you could hear them snapping and falling over everywhere" he said.
Long time locals said it was decades since that much snow had fallen in Braidwood, which is at 660 metres. However, John Maddrell did recall rolling a huge snowball through Ryrie Park, and into the Royal Mail Hotel once upon a time. Thanks to all those who contributed their photos to the Times.
