Young cattlemen Highly Commended

19 Apr, 2006 11:06 AM
Braidwood Central students, Luke Staunton, Nathan Moffitt, Michael Roach and Daniel Ison spent several days in Sydney at the Royal Sydney Show. The boys took two square meater steers to the competition, the only school in the south east region to compete in Sydney.

In the CLASS: 2 Middleweight School Steer 381-500 kg, the boys came 7th out of 13 winning a Highly Commended Ribbon. In the Open Section, they came 8th of the 30 entries.

The steers had been donated by Tony Cairns Rainbow Square Meaters and L & D Square Meaters Stud (Jerangle). With Ag teacher Mick Wall, the steers had 6 months of preparation being grain fed and broken in to lead by the students. The steers were then auction making $3.10pkg for the 419kg School Steer, and $2pkg for the 478kg Open Steer.
