BRAIDWOOD CATTLE SALE REPORT

10 May, 2008 01:20 PM
Generally the quality was very good throughout with just a few odd plainer pens. Competition was certainly stronger throughout the sale with most categories 10 to 12 cents better than last month’s sale. This follows the trend which occurred at other market centres in New South Wales

A good gallery of buyers were present and came from Cooma, Wodonga, Young, Moruya, Wingham, Wagga, Goulburn, Forbes, Moss Vale, Milton, Canberra, Crookwell and also some excellent local Braidwood district competition.

D.M. & G.S. Royds “Caloola” Braidwood, whose property has been sold, offered 260 Poll Hereford and Poll Hereford cross cows 1999 to 2005 drop,220 of these preg tested in calf to Poll Hereford and Angus bulls to calf in the spring. These cows met strong competition from restockers and meat processors alike.

This run of cows averaged 583.4 kgs live weight and averaged 127.2cents per kg and came back at $741.86

Landmark Crookwell a/Wicklow Properties Roslyn purchased a run of 66 Poll Hereford cows which included 16 2003 drop cows for $741.60 and a run of the 2004 drop cows for $736. The top pen of cows made $821 and went to a meat processor.

Billaglen Pastoral Co sold a draft of 15 Angus heifers 15/16 months for $708, these also went to the trade.
