Winter was back with the squally showers of rain making it our most miserable day of the season. The Subbies were called off but the rest of the games were of an extremely high standard. Continued P8.
The Intermediates Final Series is proving to be one of the closest ever with all the teams displaying some desperate defence and out of the first six games, three have gone to extra time.
Just a reminder for all the Raffle tickets to be brought back in the next week along with any money so we can have it organized to draw on Grand Final Day!
JUNIORS
Pumas v Lions: This was the top of the table clash with both sides coming off shock losses from the previous week and the Pumas only two points in front of the Lions. The wet conditions suited the Lions best though with Lochie Ramm scoring all four of their goals as they took total control of the game early. The Pumas never gave up and put up a spirited fight but the Lions now lead the Junior competition by just one point with only two games left in the season. Final score Lions 4 Pumas 0
Leopards v Tigers: The Leopards were coming off their best win of the year as were the Tigers when both teams upset the competitions frontrunners last weekend. There was only 2 points between the two teams with the Tigers keen to get off the bottom of the ladder. The Leopards have been playing well as a team of late with some great passing coming into their game and they continued this impressive style of play with a dominating display. Kelly Liversidge scored the first goal from a set piece play and Anjali Williams scored her first ever goal from another brilliant corner from Mitchell Roberts. The Tigers defended well all game and it took some good team work to get the Leopards the win. Final score Leopards 2 Tigers 0
INTERMEDIATES
Cyclops v Titans: This was a cracking game of football with some hard tackling and great teamwork from both teams. Not many genuine scoring opportunities in both halves but the defence of the Cyclops shut down the Titans attacking wizards. The Titans have only lost 2 games all season and the Cyclops have been steadily growing in confidence and both teams were unable to get in front at the end of normal time. Extra time started with some added pressure being applied by the Cyclops from a corner kick and the ball fell at the feet of Josh Liversidge for him to slot it into the goal and give the Cyclops the lead. The Titans tried valiantly to get one back but time ran out and the Cyclops took the victory. Final score Cyclops 1 Titans 0 ( extra time )
Minotaurs v Trojans: The Minotaurs finished the regular season in 6th position and were able to get up last week against the competition frontrunners with a penalty shootout and were keen to capitalize on their good fortune with them playing the Trojans. The Trojans have had a bit of bad luck with sickness taking out important players over the last two weeks and were out to get themselves a semi final spot. The Minotaurs started well and got the first goal of the game with a cracking goal to Alex Royds. The Trojans have never given up in any of the games they have played this year and were rewarded with a great equalizer to Cameron Bradley. The scores were tied at the end of normal time and extra time couldn't find a winner either so a penalty shoot out was required. The Minotaurs had the same experience the previous week and were able to get the victory again after showing more composure at the penalty spot. Final score Minotaurs 5 ( pen) Trojans 4 ( pen )
Argonauts v Gorgons: The Argonauts were out to make up for a shock loss the previous week and the Gorgons were out to improve on some recent good form. The game was a very close affair with not many real scoring opportunities created due to some very tight defending. Kate Goodwin broke the deadlock for the Argonauts with a beautifully struck shot with only a few minutes to go and as hard as the Gorgons tried they couldn't get the equalizer before time ran out. Final score Argonauts 1 Gorgons 0
This all sees next weeks games being played like this:
Game 7 Field 1 9am Play off for 5th Gorgons v Trojans
Game 8 Field 2 9am 1st Semi Final Titans v Argonauts
Game 9 Field 2 10am 2nd Semi Final Minotaurs v Cyclops
SENIORS
Dad's Army v Mash: Dad's Army were out to cement top spot with a win and Mash were there to cause a bit of havoc at the end of the season. The difference on the day was a brilliant display of goal scoring by Stevie Whitmore who put away five goals for Dad's Army. Troy Harrison managed to get on the score sheet as well for Dad's Army as Mash could only manage two goals at the end of the game. Final score Dad's Army 6 Mash 2
Hogan's Heroes v F-Troop: This was a game of two halves with Hogan's Heroes getting 2 great goals in the first half and playing like they were pushing for top spot on the ladder. F-Troop came out firing in the second half and with only a few minutes left on the clock managed to equalize and confirm second spot on the ladder. Final score Hogan's Heroes 2 F-Troop 2
This makes the semi finals look like this:
Field 1: 11am 1st Semi Final, 1st Dad's Army v 4th Mash.
Field 2: 11am 2nd Semi Final, 2nd F-Troop v 3rd Hogan's Heroes
