Bears maul defending Bungendore

07 Jun, 2009 12:46 PM
As in Braidwood's historic win against Crookwell the week before, the Bears' defence in the first half layed the groundwork for their second half blitz with the Bears superior fitness proving too much for the lack lustre Tigers.

Steve Newsome had a top game at fullback and was dangerous every time he touched the ball making great metres, scored a try and denied another.

The wingers Hacker, Lane, Bakos and Read all had the best game for the Bears this season. Hacker picked up Orford's Olyred Construction Players Player award with an amazing and well deserved 15 votes. Adam scored 2 great tries. He is Braidwood's answer to Parramatta's Nathan Hindmarsh. Hindmarsh average 40 tackles a game. Hacker does about that many hitups a match and if 40 attackers ran at him he would tackle them too.

Dicko and Edwards had solid games. The veterans are enjoying the freedom out wide made possible by great inside work from halves Stuart and Guihot. Guihot also grabbed two tries while Stuart had a tradesmen's like game at half back guiding the Bears around the paddock. He earned 2nd place in Orfords Olyred Construction Players Player Award.

Backrowers Backhouse, Piper and Wyburn never stopped when on the paddock. They made huge metres in attack and were punishing in defence. McMaster and Murphy are fast becoming the form props of the comp. Against the Tigers they tore into the opposition pack in both attack and defence.

Captain and hooker Matt McCarthy had another great game making valuable metres out of dummy half and another 12 points to his impressive personal tally so far this season.

Interchange forwards White, Jonas, Kolber and Big Ty Noble were all outstanding off the bench fearlessly ripping in attack and all had solid defensive games. The Bears undefeated record and competition lead looks more impressive with 250 points scored in just 5 games.

On Saturday week the Bears travel to Binalong to take on the Brahmans. Proth's Pick-a-Bear Jackpots to $500 for that match. Luke Clarke drew last Friday night's Player.

The Bruce Stuart Building Score Board for Round 7 Bears 44 ( Hacker 2 tries, Guihot 2, Backhouse, Newsome, Lane and Dixon 1, McCarthy 6 conversions.)
