This year we had an under 12 boys team and an under 15 girls team make the daily journey to several parts of Canberra.
A special thankyou to Frank Culmone and his brother Mark for the hire of the bus during the week.
Our u/12 boys and girls had a tough time as the pool they were in was possibly the strongest in their age group and as much as they didn't win a game, I'm sure they grew a little personally during the week. Our side was one of the youngest but certainly didn't finish last out of the 34 teams in their age group. We did manage to get one of the biggest cheers of the week when Rowan Brown scored our only goal of the week against a fine Sydney side.
I would personally like to thank all the Parents of the U/12 who were a huge help with shuffling kids around to different grounds during the week and a big thankyou our manager Corinne Howard who was a great support to me all week!
I would also like to thank you all for the great gift you gave me at the end of the week! I was overwhelmed with the enormity of it and feel deeply moved by the sentiments in the card. I hope every one enjoyed the week and I'm sure that it was a learning experience for both parents and kids involved.
Our 15 girls were runners up in the Plate division last year and were out to go one better if they could. Once again we were placed in the toughest pool and our girls grew as they week progressed. A first up win and then 3 very narrow losses placed us 4th in our group.
This meant that we would be in the plate division again and we downed a Sydney side Maroubra 1-0 in extra time in the quarter final. Our semi final was won by a penalty shoot out on the 7th kick and unfortunately we couldn't exact revenge on the team who beat us in the final from last year as we went down 1-0 in the final.
Runners up in 2007 and Runners up in 2008, not bad for a team from a little country town. As you may see in the photo taken with the opposition we get on really well with the Belnorth Lightning and we hit the Belconnen Macca's together after the game to share the atmosphere of what was another big week of soccer.
All of you who played in the under 15 side should feel extremely proud of yourselves to get 2 medals in 3 years of playing in the cup. Each and every one of you have touched my heart with your brilliant approached to your football journey over the last 3 years and have been a lot of fun to work with.
To all the parents of the 15 girls thank you for your support during what was possibly one of the wettest weeks of winter, but I think it was all worth it in the end.
A special thankyou to Tracey Harrison who helped to manage the girls during the week and to Kirshley Jullienne who helped during the week also.
