A glorious spring day greeted round 16 and things are starting to heat up in the Intermediates and Seniors competitions. Both competitions have seen some amazing football played over the last few weeks and the form from the season has been thrown out the window with a few upsets and the hint of some more to come. The Junior competition is also going to come down to the final round to see who finishes Premiers as the Lions and Pumas fight it out and only one point separating them.
The final week of the season is on this weekend and we need all Raffle tickets and money returned so the raffle can be drawn at 1pm and if you want to see an action packed day of finals football get there early and enjoy!
SUBJUNIORS
Fervour was high, with the first and only goal of the game quickly scored by Fynn Walker for the Frogs. Lots of players came close to scoring, but Lily Morris successfully defended for the Frogs. Isaac Quattromini came nearly scored the Frogs' second goal, but threw not kicked the ball between the goal posts!
JUNIORS
Lions v Tigers: This was a very exciting game for one team as the Lions consolidated top spot on the ladder and slotted in 6 goals as the hapless Tigers tried but had no answers to stop the Lions goal scoring machine. Best for the Lions were Wyll Holland Jack Asimus and Cameron Pont. Best for the Tigers were Forbes Corby Harry Shoemark and Natasha Liversidge. Final score Lions 6 Tigers 0
Pumas v Leopards: The clashes between these two teams all year have been close and the Pumas have always got the result but the Leopards almost took points off them this time round. The Pumas Joel Clarke scored first and it wasn't until the second half until the Leopards Kelly Liversidge scored to level the scores. With only minutes left the Pumas Joel Clarke got his teams second and try as they may the Leopards couldn't equalize again. Final score Pumas 2 Leopards 1
INTERMEDIATES
Play Off for 5th - Game 1
Trojans v Gorgons : What a great game this was! The Trojans jumped all over the Gorgons defense in the first half and lead them at half time 4-0. The half time break suited the Gorgons though and they came out firing and before the Trojans were ready it was 4-2. The Trojans managed another goal to take the score to 5-2 but 2 late goals for the Gorgons see them only 1 goal behind the Trojans going into game 2 next week. Goal scorers were Cameron Bradley 1 and Luke Hemler 4 for the Trojans and Zac Bennett 3 and Troy Mundy 1 for the Gorgons. Final score Trojans 5 Gorgons 4
1st Semi Final
Argonauts v Titans: These two teams finished first and second on the ladder in the regular season and the Argonauts have had the better of those clashes winning both times. But this is finals football and the Titans were out to get one back on the Argonauts. The Argonauts Kate Goodwin put them in front early with a great goal and the Titans were struggling to get the ball out of their own half. The Titans Janaya Faichney managed to score early in the second half and they seemed to be gaining in confidence the longer the game went on. The game was heading towards extra time until some good lead up play by Will Richards put Janaya Faichney in behind the Argonauts defence to smack the ball over the keepers head and give them the lead. The final few minutes saw both teams have chances to score but the Titans managed to hang on and book themselves into the Grand Final next week! Final score Titans 2 Argonauts 1
2nd Semi Final
Cyclops v Minotaurs
The last time these two teams met the Cyclops had a field day scoring 4 goals but the Minotaurs have shown their true potential in the final series and this game was going to be no picnic. The Cyclops defence was outstanding and the ball spent little time in their defensive half in the first half but the pressure they created on the Minotaurs defence wasn't capitalized on. The Minotaurs are dangerous against the run of play and as the game went on they managed to get a couple of good chances on goal but the scrambling defence of the Cyclops kept them out. The game was heading for the extra time when a penalty was awarded for a hand ball in the goal box and the Cyclops Sam McGlone slammed it into the back of the net from the spot. With only five minutes left the Minotaurs threw everything at the Cyclops but they ran out of time and the Cyclops booked themselves into next weeks Grand Final. Final score Cyclops 1 Minotaurs 0
This all makes next week games look like this:

Trojans v Gorgons
9am Field 2 Playoff for 3rd
Argonauts v Minotaurs
10am Field 2 Grand Final

SENIORS
1st Semi Final
Dad's Army v Mash : This was a very entertaining game with Dad's Army taking an early lead due to a good goal by Stevie Whitmore. Mash tried hard to get back into the game but Troy Harrison slotted in Dad's Army's second and 2-0 was the half time score. Mash managed to get on the score sheet with a great goal from Jared Hodgson and they were back in the contest. But Stevie Whitmore had other ideas and slotted in his second goal to end the game. Final score Dad's Army 3 Mash 1
2nd Semi Final
F-Troop v Hogan's Heroes: A cracking game of football with both teams having good chances to score but at the end of normal time the score was still locked at nil all. Extra time was had and Hogan's Heroes managed to score in the first half and were looking like taking the match until F-Troop equalized and a penalty shoot out was needed to see who would get into next weeks Grand final. F-Troop held their nerve better from the penalty spot and won the shoot out 3-1. Final score F-Troop 1 (3 pen) Hogan's Heroes 1 (1 pen)
