Soccer Report

30 Jul, 2006 01:49 PM

The soccer season kicked off Round 8 after a 3 week break for holidays and it was great to see the kids keen to get on with the season. Some of our teams have benefited from the break, however some of them played like it was week 1 all over again. Plenty of action was had in all divisions and some great goals scored.

The soccer community wishes Tom Daniher a speedy recovery after an unfortunate broken leg in his intermediate game and hope that he is back fit and well for next season!

SUBJUNIORS

Cloudy skies greeted the return of the Sub Juniors after their break. Jeremy Ramm successfully defended some goals for the Polar Bears and the Frogs' Goalie was Andy Barr. Despite some serious attempts, no scores were made for either team. There were numerous penalty kicks, which everyone loved! Lots of running, ball kicking and near misses. The signature hand-holding groups and moments of ring-a-ring-a-rosy continue! Until next week's game, thanks to Jamie for coaching and Richard's help with the warm-up exercises. Thanks also to the all the mums who wash and orange cut.

JUNIORS

LIONS V LEOPARDS: This was an entertaining game and the Leopards were short a few players but the Lions Tim Corcoran offered to help them. The Lions were every where in the first half and held the Leopards out with some great defense. The Lions Harry Fry got a quick goal in the second half and the Leopards tried hard to get an equalizer but the Lions sealed the win with a late goal by Wyll Holland. Best for the Lions were Jack Asimus Cameron Pont and Lucy Fanning. Best for the Leopards were Josh Story Edward Horan and Anjali Williams. Final score Lions 2 Leopards 0

TIGERS V PUMAS :The Pumas had a great start to the year with plenty of wins and were out to keep their good record in tact. The Tigers were out to put in a better performance this term and things were looking good as the game progressed. The Pumas however have a great little weapon in both attack and defence in Joel Clarke and he slotted in 2 goals to be the difference between the 2 teams. Best for the Pumas were Ryan Smithers Joel Croxon and Jai Coleman. Best for the Tigers were Natasha Liversidge Georgina Evans and Alexandra Rush. Final score Pumas 2 Tigers 0

INTERMEDIATES

CYCLOPS V GORGONS: The Cyclops finally put in a consistant performance and played together as a team. The Gorgons were on the back foot for the first 10 minutes. It seemed that the Cyclops were never going to be able to get a shot on goal due to the compressed defence of the Gorgons. The Cyclops managed to open the scoring after some great passing opened up the Gorgons defence. Sam McGlone had an impressive game and scored the Cyclops 2 goals to give them a well worked win. Best for the Cyclops were Sam McGlone Ricardo Rojas- Terry and Thomas Roberts. Best for the Gorgons were Nicholas Tiorkens Johnathon Bowler and Melissa Mundy. Final score Cyclops 2 Gorgons 0

TROJANS V MINOTAURS: This was a very exciting game by two evenly matched teams. The Minotaurs were tenacious in every facet of the game and the Trojans never stopped running. The Minotaurs had some good attacking raids and Dylan Crisp managed to slot in a great goal for them. But the Trojans Luke Hemler finally managed to hit the target after a barrage of shots and Miles Grant scored the winning goal. The Trojans Sarah Hemler was always in the right spot and Cameron Bradley had a great game in goals. Best for the Trojans were Zach Collins Cameron Bradley and Todd Collett. Best for the Minotaurs were Makyra McAllister Angus Sherriff and Brianna Pont. Final score Trojans 2 Minotaurs1

Argonauts V Titans

This game was a top of the table clash and offered plenty as a spectacle but was sadly forced to be a 0-0 draw due to an unfortunately hard luck incident. Tom Daniher was having a great game for his team the Titans when a simple clash of bodies resulted in him breaking his leg. The Ambulance was called and time ticked away to the point where the game was abandoned as a 0-0 draw. We all wish Tom a speedy recovery and hope that he can come back as soon as possible. Best for the Argonauts were Patrick Hannaford Amy Liversidge and Edmond Morris. Best for the Titans were Tom Daniher Sophie Richards and Emma Grant. Final result Argonauts 0 Titans 0

SENIORS

DAD'S ARMY V HOGAN'S HEROES

This was a cracking game with a 1-1 halftime score and both teams giving each other plenty of defence to do. Thomas Royds had a brilliant second half in goals for Dad's Army after letting in a soft goal in the first half. The Hogan's Heroes never gave up but the class of Dad's Army shone through with a stunning second half barrage of goals to win comfortably. Best for Dad's Army were Stevie Whitmore Troy Harrison and Thomas Royds. Best for Hogan's Heroes were Simon Camilleri Iain Atkinson and Nathan West.

Final score Dad's Army 4 Hogan's Heroes 1

MASH V F- TROOP: This was another thrilling game and both teams played extremely good football with shots hitting the crossbar from corners and plenty of great defence keeping the scoring low. Mash managed to sneak in 2 goals but F-Troop were relentless in trying to get a goal and managed to only get 1 in reply to see Mash come away with the points. Best for Mash were Sam Harrison Kaylie Newell and Ned Bott. Best for F-Troop were Alec Kelly Zac Faichney and Jack McGlone. Final score Mash 2 F-Troop 1
