Bears beaten by Binalong Brahams

14 Aug, 2009 02:44 PM
The Brahmans held a 14-0 lead at halftime and scored 5 tries to the Bears 3.

From the opening whistle Mark Piper made 30 metres from the kickoff return and the Bears were soon camped on the Brahmans tryline but a dropped pass with line wide open set the tone for the rest of the first half. The Bears were their own worst enemies with unforced errors and uncharacteristic soft defence let Binalong capitalise and run in 3 unanswered tries.

Seven Minutes into the second half Braidwood finally got on the scoreboard with Paul Lane scoring out wide. For the next 20 minutes the Bears came back strongly - like the Boomunulla game - and ran in two more tries to level the score at 14 all. Another unforced error off the kickoff saw the momentum swing back to Binalong with their 5/8 scoring in the next set of 6 tackles and to seal the result the Brahmans crossed again as the final siren sounded.

Game Day Sponsors Rodven Cleaning Services Players Player Award went to Adam Hacker who gave 11O %. Hacker was never far from the ball all game either in attack or defence. Danny White and Brent Backhouse shared second place. Backy brought off some enormous hits and ran the ball with purpose every time. Whitey gave great service off the bench with his trademark charges into Binalongs defence and had a solid defensive game. Thanks to the Stubb`s family for their generous support. Marty Edwards won the coaches Award. Marty consistently broke the Brahmans first line with purposeful determined running. Next Saturday the Bears take on Bungendore Tigers at Bungendore in the Battle of Palerang at 3pm. The Bears need to regain the intensity they displayed in the previous month to get the points over the Tigers.
