The Braidwood Servicemen's Club Bears came out growling at the Rec on Saturday thrashing the Harman Seadogs 52-12. The Bears scored 10 tries to Harmans 2 and led 28-0 at halftime. Bears Captain Marty Edwards had a grin like a split watermelon at the end of the game with his boys completely dominating the opposition who had only 2 weeks earlier came close to defeating Queanbeyan Blues reserve grade in a trial match. Braidwood's hookers and halves Piper, Hacker, Pig Guihot and Jimmy Evans had Harman's defence on the back foot every time the touched the ball. They broke the defensive line nearly every time they ran the ball and constantly set up their supports when they passed it . The forwards Jonas, Noble, Giannasca, Pender-Seymour, Watson, Clarke, Beckmann and Sunny -Bill Raynolds all made it over the advantage line every time they took the ball up .
The outside backs Edwards, Biggsie, McGrath, Heycox, Backhouse, Augustin and Gara constantly broke through their opposite number out wide making the most of their opportunities created by their inside men. The whole team defensive effort was impresive, only letting in two tries in extremely hot conditions for footy.
The Bears would like to thank Game Day Sponsor`s Vicki and Ray from the Royal Cafe. The Royal Cafe Players Player Awards went to Marty Edwards (1st) and Gordon Pender-Seymour (2nd) with Damien Bigg earning the Coaches Award.
The Bears would also like to acknowledge the top job Cassie Moran (strapper), Megan Boynton (1st aider) ,Joe Read (trainer), Darren Rowley and Craig Nadin (touch judges), Pauline Keighran (catering ) and Adam Dixon (interchange) did on game day.
The one down side on a great day was the injury Tommy Watson sustained to his knee which could see him side-lined for an extended period, and Nigel McGrath will be out of action for 6 weeks with a broken collar-bone.
Next Sunday the Bears take on Crookwell at Crookwell at 2.00pm . The Bears are hoping to knock over the Green-Devils who they are yet to defeat since both teams have been playing in the George Tooke Shield Comp.
The Bruce Stuart Building Scoreboard versus Harman reads Braidwood 52 (Edwards 3 tries, Hacker 2, Pender-Seymour 1, Backhouse 1, Bigg 1 and Augustin 2 and 6 goals) Harman 12.
