The Bears win was very satisfying considering they lost 52-0 in the first round against the Warriors. Braidwood continued on their previous week’s good form against Goulburn Exchange laying the platform for the win with a solid defence from the opening whistle. They continually forced the West Belconnen side into handling errors, capitalised and ran in 4 tries in the first half. The second half the Bears became a little more adventurous, trying to entertain the good crowd at the Rec resulting in a few mist chances for 4 pointers but they were able to contain the opposition and come away with a narrow win but a good win just the same.
Woden Constructions Players Player Award went to Adam Hacker who had an absolute blinder in the centres, cutting down anything in a Blue jumper with copybook defence all game and every time he touched the ball Adam made valuable ground with great footwork and without fear. Jason Kolber thoroughly deserved the Coaches Award for his outstanding defensive effort. Like Hacker his grass cutting defence was first class and he will be an asset to the Bears in coming seasons. The rest of the Bears from Biggsey at fullback to crowd pleaser Danny White in the front row put in 110% for the final game giving all the great supporters at the Rec a real football treat.
A big thank you to Kerrie Piper for organising the Seafood raffles on Friday night whch were won by Roy Grant, Margret Jones and Laurie Joyce. Thank you to Woden Constructions for their generous Game Day sponsorship. Over the years Woden’s have employed many of Braidwood’s youth as trainees and apprentices.
And thankyou to the Bears supporters who stuck with the Bears particularly after the horrendous run with injuries at the start of the season. The Bears celebrated their 'Mad Monday' at the Club on Saturday night Kicking off with Bar-b-que cooked by Rob and Pauline and donated generously by the Braidwood Butchery. Stay tuned for the announcement for the Presentation Night.
