Bears season to kick off

03 Apr, 2008 01:52 PM
The Braidwood Servicemens Club Bears kicks off on Saturday week when they take on the Harman Seadogs at the rec starting at 2.30. The Bears will be playing in the 2nd Division Canberra Region Junior Rugby League Competition - the George Tooke Shield- and will be lining up against Bungendore, Boomunulla, Tuggeranong, West Belconnen, Harman, Harden-Binalong, Crookwell, Goulburn Exchange and the Gordon Highlanders also from Goulburn. Each team plays every side twice in a "home and away" format throughout the season with the top five sides competing in the semi-final series in September.

Marty Edwards has the boys training since late January and with only having one trial the Bears are keen to get on the paddock.

While Marty has had good numbers at training there is still room for any young fellas keen to have a run to join the Bears for this season, so don`t hesitate to contact Marty. Off the field Club stalwart Brian Prothero will be running the popular "Pick-a Bear" at the Club on Friday night before every Bears game and the tipping comp is in full swing with Father Mark and Mark Piper in the lead after the second round.
