The Braidwood Servicemen's Club Bears season ended 2 weeks early when they went down to arch rivals the Bungendore Tigers 18-12 in atrocious wet and windy conditions at Binalong on Saturday in the minor-semi final.
The Bears were down 10-0 at halftime and scored 2 tries to Bungendore's 4 for the match. Tries to Matt McCarthy and Adam Hacker saw the Bears hit the lead with 15 minutes to go. But Bungendore scored with 10 minutes left to make it 14-12 to them and sealed the match as the fulltime hooter sounded with another try. Hacker scored the try of the game when Paul Stuart regathered his own chip kick and offloaded to Josh Turnbull who passed to Hacker then to Pig Guihot who drew the fullback and fed it to Hacker who backed up and scored.
McCarthy got the Bears ahead with his trademark dart out of dummy half close to the line after Harris, Bakos and Big Ty Noble had all made great runs to get the ball deep into the Tigers territory. Adam Hacker picked up the Players Player Award. As he has all season he never stopped all game in attack or defence even from fullback. Peter Kelly got 2nd place for a real top effort in the forwards. He took the attack to the Bungendore forwards and wasn`t overawed playing against the big names in the Tigers pack including his big brother.
Coach Newsome was naturally disappointed with the result but was proud of their effort, particularly how they bounced back in the second half and is now looking forward to next season after being reappointed after such a successful year.
