The Braidwood Servicemen's club Bears downed the Harman Seadogs 30-4 topping off a fantastic day at the Rec on Saturday. Starting with the junior soccer early Saturday, the Redbacks knocking over competition leaders the Bay Boars and finishing off with the Bears exciting win, footy fans were treated to winter sport at its best. The Bears scored 5 tries to the seadogs 1 and held an 18-0 lead at oranges. Harman came out strong in the second half, scoring in the fourth minute but the Bears proved to strong, fit and enthusiastic with Billy Halligan racking up 2 tries in the 51st and 59th minutes, and putting paid to any hope of a Harman comeback. Halligan's game saw him pick up Braidwood Mobil's players player award. Billy was in the thick of the action in attack and defence again notching up over 200 metres with the ball and making telling tackles all match.
5/8 Matty McCarthy's excellent ball distribution saw the Bears backline really light up and kept the seadogs backs pressured all arvo. Matty scored a top individual try when he ran the ball and stepped his way through the defence without a hand been laid on him. McCarthy earned players player 2nd place. Thanks to Braidwood Mobil's hardworking Henry and Lauren for their valued game day sponsorship. Jason Kolber was named coaches player. Kolber was up there in the tackle count and his support play in attack was 1st class.
Coach Steve Newsome was pleased with his side's win which consolidates the Bears in the top 5. He is confident his side will perform against 6th placed team the Boorowa rovers at the Rec next Saturday at 2.30 and put paid to their semi final aspirations.
