On Saturday 11/11 the Braidwood Bowling Club held a very successful day celebrating the Golden Jubilee in socialising and bowling. In glorious sunshine the President Bill George welcomed State Vice President Mr John Young-Husband, Des Anderson and Zone rep Ray McInnes, Past President of Bowls ACT and bowlers from neighbouring clubs. Bowls kicked off after a spider at 10am. One minute silence was observed at 11 am with ode.
At Luncheon, State Vice President presented the Royal NSW Bowls Association Badge to Ed Gardner and Barry Jonas for their service to the club. Visiting past members of the club including Arthur Webb, Bill Marshall, John Marshall, Bill Nierbec and Ian Godfrey were toasted.
Midge Stalker, Foundation President of the Womens Bowling Club congratulated the Club. Later sixty bowlers went back to the greens. At the dinner dance that evening one 86 year old bowler proved you're never too old to dance, and John Bunn spoke recounted some of the early history of the Club which was formed in 1955, when the inaugural meeting was opened by his forebear, Jack Bunn.
Some of the significant achievements of the club were; winning the No.5 Goulburn District Pennant in 1980, 1989 and 1990, and reaching the State Finals in the No.7 Pennants in 2000. Mr Bunn added that "Over the years the Club has won District singles, triples and fours Championships as well as having a Junior NSW rep in Richard Smith. We have won the District Patron's Shield and the Eurobodalla Bicentennial Shield in 2001."
Mrs Betty Jonas and Mrs June Young were presented with the Royal NSW Bowls association badges for service to bowls. The bowlers thank Bob Mitchell and his staff for their assistance for the day.
