Braidwood bowlers have had an exciting couple of weeks. Firstly a team of five bowlers travelled to Tuross Heads to complete in a fives Tournament and came home with the third prize money which was a great achievement against 70 bowlers. Last Thursday we witnessed one of the great A Grade contests with the Pairs Championship finals being fought out between John Bunn and Richard Smith and Frank Stuart and Keith Osmond. Whilst Bun and Smith won 23/18, from where the Possum was sitting it was one of the most enthralling games he had seen in a long time, with quite a gallery enj9oying the final ends. Over the weekend, Braidwood Bowling Club hosted it's inaugural Two Bowl Triples Tournament which had 42 bowlers competing in three 18 end games on both days. The overall winners were the young guns, Billy Halligan, Nigel McGrath and Andrew Moran, with a score of 5 games plus 26.
Though bowls is called an old people's game by some, the young guns just had the constitution to last the distance, even though they tried to handicap themselves on Saturday night.
The runners up were R Jackson, Elio Ellias and J Taskles, who won by 4 1/2 games plus 30. The third p[lace went to Barry Towns, Bill George and Frank Stuart, with 4 1/2 games plus 21.
Day 1 winners were P Burn, Eric Clarke and A Kaden, with 2 1/2 game plus 19.
Day 2 winners were A Stanley, R Smith and J Bunn, with 2 1/2 games plus 7.
The last game winners with a score of plus 15 was G Monfries, A Lamb and A Monfries. Players came from the South Coast, Queanbeyan and ACT Clubs and they all agreed this tournament would grow as an annual event.
The bowlers are reminded that the Christmas gathering will be held at bowls at 4pm, followed by dinner on Saturday 16th December. Please put your names on the board.
