Cricket nets for BCS

21 Mar, 2007 09:43 AM
Braidwood Central School has received a $2,000 grant for the construction of cricket nets.

Member for Monaro, Steve Whan, announced he was "pleased to be able to provide the students with a new sporting facility like this. Kids need every opportunity to be encouraged to walk away from the TV and do something active - cricket is a great sport for boys and girls of all skill levels.'"

Steve Whan said he received a request for the cricket nets from Palerang Major, Jim Maclachlan. "Mayor Maclachlan told me keen young cricketers were having to walk a fair distance from the school to access the town's only cricket nets.

"I was more than happy to take Mayor Maclachlan's request to the NSW Education Minister, Carmel Tebbutt, who in return was pleased to be able to provide the full amount for the project" said Whan.
