Good win to end season

21 Feb, 2008 09:38 AM
Braidwood Cricket senior side wrapped up it’s first season in the CCSCA competition with a three wicket win over Brindabella at the Rec on Saturday.

Batting first Brindabella struggled with the tight Braidwood attack and were all out for 138. Troy Harrison produced a tight first up spell and was rewarded with two wickets. Peter Hazell, Garry Haigh and Brendan Maher all bowled well and Barry Osmond finished with 3 for 10. A notable highlight of the innings was the catch taken by 13 year old Joel Pearce playing in his first senior match.

James South got the home side off to a whirlwind start with a quick fire 26. Peter Hazell and other debutant John Milner steadied the ship before John was out for 15. Brendan Maher added 26 and Hazell was out for 32.The usual mid order collapse saw Dave Dexter, Pat Martin and Gary Haigh lose their wickets cheaply but Barry Osmond held the innngs together with a steady knock.

In a fitting finish to the season Corey Pont found some form and had the thrill of hitting the winning run in what may be his final game for Braidwood as he heads off to Uni. Corey has played 4seasons in the seniors and has been a very dependable team member and it was great to see his efforts over these years be rewarded as Braidwood passed the required total with 2 wickets and 4 overs to spare.

This concludes a very successful season for the club. The goal at the start of the season was to rebuild the side, hopefully win a couple of games and try to get a full team on the paddock each week. All these have been achieved and will be celebrated at the clubs presentation day on 8th March.

In Fridays match Braidwood failed by 2 wickets to overcome reigning State Champions in a thrilling match that went right to the wire. Batting first Braidwood failed to bat their overs and were dismissed for 61 in 23 overs. Boorowa were very confident of passing this total easily but 2 early wickets and continued pressure had them struggling at 7 for 45.However Braidwood could not get the vital breakthrough and Boorowa snuck home.
