It's Braidwood Cup Day on Saturday

17 Feb, 2010 10:43 AM
The Braidwood Jockey Club is geared up for the racing event of the year this Saturday 20th February, promising to once again be a crowd pleaser. The rain has been welcome for the track which is in good condition for the big event.

With any luck if the weather stays mild we will not be faced with the same scorching temperatures as last year. It is always better to have a day of friendly weather to pull out the frocks and watch a few ponies do a lap of the racecourse.

Hopefully the children of the district have been madly colouring in their jockeys and thinking up a winners name for their horse. The winners will be announced at the races and all entries will be displayed at the racecourse on the day.

We also hope to have a good display of entries in Fashions on the Field. The races are a fantastic opportunity to flaunt items of clothing that would otherwise be pushed in the back of your closet most of the year, or a good excuse to buy something new. It is not often one gets the opportunity to fine up for the fillies, so fellas make sure those suits are in good order for Fashions on the Field. And ladies, go the extra furlong with a hat or a fascinator and you could be in the running for two nights accommodation for 2 people in any Metro Hotel Apartment or Inn of your choice, including breakfast. Why not score yourself a holiday while having a great day of entertainment at the races? All winners will also receive flowers donated by Braidwood Bunyip Jungle, chocolates donated by The Boiled Lolly Shop and champagne donated by the Braidwood Hotel.

The bar is stocked and the cooking well underway to make sure punters get a good feed into them as well as plenty of refreshments to wash down the wins.

Catering at the event will be supplied by the Jockey Club. Please note there is NO BYOG to the races due to licensing laws. This is the rule for all race meets so don't be disappointed if you rock up with an esky full of coldies and you are told to put them back in your car (or worse, in the bin).

Buses are ready to transport racegoers to and from town, picking up from the drinking establishments from when the gates open at 11am until after the first race, offering the same service to get you home safely when the last race winds up at approximately 4pm. Beat the traffic and the breathalyser by hopping on the bus.

A big thanks to all our sponsors, without them a great event such as this would not be able to be staged. These include Country Energy, Cortona, Braidwood Truckies, Braidwood Associated Agents, Hannaford Stud and Braidwood Builders and Subbies.

The Braidwood Jockey club looks forward to having you all at the Braidwood Racecourse for a fun day with friends and family.

A forecast for Saturday of sunny conditions and 29 degrees, will be a relief after the searing heat of last years race meeting.
