Braidwood athlete Brittney McGlone's athletic career is gaining strength as she adds to her winning tally. Last weekend she placed first in the Inter Club Competition at the AIS in Canberra, where she competing for the Queanbeyan Athletics Club in the 400m hurdles.
In December at the Australian All Schools National Athletics, Brittney won Gold in the 400m Hurdles. She was presented her medal by famous Nova Batman (Peris)).
Brittney then went to the Queensland U20 and U23 championships in early January, where she won the 100m Hurdles and the 400m Hurdles.
On January 27th, Brittney ran her 1st Open event at the Canberra Telstra A's Series in the 400m Hurdles as she came 2nd.
Brittney's next competition is the 400m Hurdles at Sydney Telstra A's on the 17th February where she hope to qualify for the World Junior Championships in Poland next year.
Brittney, a year 12 student at Braidwood Central School, trains in Canberra at the AIS track, with Mathew Beckenham, who she admires as "the best coach in the world!"
Brittney will also compete in the ACT Championships on the 1st weekend in March and Open Nationals in Queensland on the 2nd weekend in March.
Brittney currently trains three days a week, doing 2 hour each session, as well as light training at home to keep her fitness up.
The multi talented McGlone also still enjoys horse events on the local show circuit and won Champion Lady Rider at Bungendore Show, as well as Supreme champion Stock horse and Reserve Champion Galloway.
She will also be taking 5 horses to the show at the Royal Canberra Show at the end of February and will compete at the Sydney Royal Show at Easter, not to mention the Braidwood Show on March 17th.
However, with her athletics career taking off and a lot of travelling coming up, Brittney shouldn't have too much trouble finding a sponsor.
