U12's
The Redbacks scored 41 unanswered points in the minor semi final on Friday night against the Goulburn Waratahs. Joel Clarke, Angus Sherriff and Forbes Corby each bagging two tries and Ben Howard scoring one. Ben converted one try with Joel also kicking two conversions. This puts the U12's in the Grand Final next week against the Goulburn Brumbies.
Despite the score line, it was a tough game with some solid defence from both teams and good attacking runs. The forwards were persistent in their drive up the middle, creating holes in the defence and allowing the try scorers their opportunities. The backs spun the ball well with numerous runs involving the whole backline; Ben Howards try being the culmination of every pair of hands touching the ball before his dash down the sideline.
This week's Lolly Shop awards went to Joel Clarke and Jack Asimus. All the boys are looking forward to next week's Grand Final and thank all of the sponsors who helped get them on the paddock. Go the mighty Redbacks!
U10's
The Under 10's played top placed Brumbies. The boys started slow, down a couple of tries, but with plenty of sideline support, Josh Story and Sam Daniher scored a couple of runaway tries. The Brumbies playmakers were hard to contain, but hard hitting tackles by Harry, Will Shoemark, Tom Cairns, and Fynn Walker, slowed their progress, while bootlace specialists Nick Asimus and Jeremy Ramm cut them down out wide. Callum Conroy and Edward Horan drove hard at the breakdown giving plenty of clean ball. In the end it was not enough, final score 52/29 Brumbies way. Tries Sam 2, Harry 2, Josh 1. Lolly Shop awards Tom and Nick
U8'S
Redbacks 40 defeated Goulburn Waratahs 15
Spectators at the Under 8 match were treated to a rugby spectacle on Friday night. Playing against a much improved Waratahs team, our boys found themselves behind on the score board early with some lapses in defence. By half time the Redbacks clawed their way ahead 15-10. After the break, flowing rugby was on offer, with a further 5 tries to the locals. One particular passage saw the ball go through 4 or 5 sets of hands for a try in the corner. Tries to Isaac Q 2, Callaum D 2, Matthew G, Agus P-J, Ned J and Harry J. Well done to Forbes g who is settling into a role at halfback and strong tackling by Will C. Lolly Shop Awards this week go to Will Chapman and Matthew Galvin.
